Dear Expo Supporters and Friends,
Thank you for your participation in past and interest in future Expos! We suspect many of you are eager to hear about plans for a 2019 American Birding Expo.
As you may have heard, Expo founder and Bird Watcher’s Digest editor/publisher Bill Thompson has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. We all are saddened but hopeful, and are maintaining positive thoughts. While the team at Bird Watcher’s Digest is well equipped to keep this birding lifestyle company moving right along, we recognize the need for each American Birding Expo to be the most successful one yet, and we can’t risk falling short of that goal. Bill’s enthusiasm, hard work, and determination to make each Expo better than ever cannot be replicated. He is the heart and soul of the Expo, and this year, it would be difficult to pull off a record-breaking Expo without his dynamism and connections.
There will be no 2019 American Birding Expo, although Bird Watcher’s Digest, Watching Backyard Birds, Reader Rendezvous, Redstart Birding, podcasts, BirdWire, and all our other endeavors will continue. We have a great track record and proven success on those components of the company, as well as clear paths forward for continued growth and bringing joy to birders.
Don’t worry! The Expo is not going away. We are in the earliest stages of planning a 2020 American Birding Expo. Stay tuned for information about it and all the exciting things we have in store. We look forward to working closely with you to make the fifth American Birding Expo the most successful one yet!
Your American Birding Expo Team
