Thousands of bird watchers will descend upon Philadelphia once again this fall to gear up for their beloved pastime. The event is the American Birding Expo, where more than 100 exhibitors from around the world will be showcasing everything a bird watcher needs—and that includes binoculars, cameras, clothing, and other outdoor gear.
The Expo offers attendees the unique opportunity to view and try the newest and best optics available on the market at the unique Expo optics range. The indoor range simulates outdoor birding conditions, allowing consumers to field test optics side-by-side. Optics brands available for testing include Zeiss, Swarovski, Kowa, Leica, Celestron, Vortex, and Steiner.
“With hundreds of makes and models of binoculars and other birding optics available, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed,” said Bill Thompson, III, founder and director of the Expo. “The Expo optics range gives bird watchers and other outdoor enthusiasts an unparalleled opportunity to try a variety of products, with optics experts on hand, before making that important purchase.”
New Jersey Audubon’s Cape May Bird Observatory will serve as the exclusive optics dealer for the 2018 American Birding Expo.
Allen’s Camera of Levittown, Pennsylvania, is the official photography retailer of the Expo and their large stand will feature camera and lens brands such as Canon, Nikon, Tamron, Sigma, and a wide selection of photography gear.
In addition to optics and photography equipment, the 2018 American Birding Expo will feature birding-friendly cars and SUVs, outdoor clothing and gear, plus backyard products, birding tours and destinations, nonprofit organizations, book and app publishers, artwork and gift items, and more. Keynote presentations, expert talks, and morning bird walks will be offered as well. With so much to offer, the Expo is often called “the world of birding in one place.”
The 2018 American Birding Expo will be held September 21 to 23 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pennsylvania, about 30 minutes northwest of downtown Philadelphia. A weekend pass is just $10 (plus a small credit card fee) and can be purchased in advance on the Expo’s website, or at the door. Information on the Expo’s hours, special programs, and bird walks can be found at birdingexpo.com.
